Service Optimisation

What it is

Our Service Optimisation practice area specialises in improving technology service delivery methods and support capability, thereby assisting clients to increase the value of the technology-based services that IT delivers to the business.

Why it is important to you

As Plummer said at a Gartner symposium, “8 out of 10 dollars enterprises spend on IT is ‘dead money’ ”. [9]

If 80% of the average enterprise IT budget is spent keeping the lights on, it is not contributing directly to business growth or improving competitive advantage.

IT leaders face the twin challenges of reducing the cost of operating IT, and increasing the capability for supporting business growth and change. Achieving these goals will ultimately increase the value of IT services to the business.

IT organisations are constantly being asked to do more with less. What this means is that if IT doesn’t change the way it delivers services to support the business, the budget available for new technology initiatives will be reduced even more.

An IT organisation can reduce the time and effort it spends on service delivery and service management by improving its effectiveness and efficiency. This will lower operating expenditure, in turn freeing up funds for new technology initiatives.

Improving service delivery

Our Service Optimisation practice area assists our clients to run IT like a business.

The Service Optimisation team focuses on designing and implementing effective processes so our clients can deliver repeatable, scalable technology operations and support services that meet business needs while treating business users as IT’s customers.

This process might require implementing new processes or optimising processes that are already in place.

We use a blend of structured frameworks and extensive experience to deliver consistent results for our clients. We developed our structured frameworks by translating the strategies and operationalising the principles and practices set out in best practice frameworks such as:

  • COBIT - The Control Objectives for Information and related Technology
  • ITIL – The IT Infrastructure Library, and
  • CMMI – Capability Maturity Model Integration.

We call our method for service optimisation IDIOM, and the illustration shows how it works.
